Common questions

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Yes, we handle number porting for you and coordinate the switch so there's no service interruption.

How does the AI voice assistant work?

The AI assistant can answer common questions, take messages, and route callers automatically, configurable for business hours or after-hours coverage.

Do you integrate with Microsoft Teams?

Yes, Business Plus and Enterprise plans include native Microsoft Teams calling integration.

What happens if I outgrow my current plan?

There's no limit to grow into and nothing to migrate β€” you simply add more users or lines as you need them, and it happens without any interruption to your existing service.

Is support included, or is it extra?

24/7 US-based support is included on every plan, from Starter through Enterprise.

What happens if my internet goes down?

Your desk phones won't be able to make or receive calls over that connection while it's down, but your account itself isn't affected β€” and you have a built-in backup. Because the ConnectUC app also runs on your cell phone using its own cellular data, your team can keep making and receiving calls on their business number as long as their phone has signal, even if the office internet is completely out. One important step: if your cell phone is still connected to the office Wi-Fi, it may keep trying to use that connection even though it has no internet, and calls won't go through. Turn off Wi-Fi on your cell phone (or forget the network) so it switches over to cellular data. Calls to your main number can also automatically fail over to a cell phone or another location if you set that up in advance, and voicemail keeps working so callers can still leave a message. Ask us about configuring a backup failover number for your account.

My calls sound choppy or cut out, what's going on?

This is almost always a network issue rather than a problem with your phone or account. Start by checking that your internet connection is stable and not overloaded by other traffic. If it's happening on every call, ask whoever manages your router or firewall to disable a setting called "SIP ALG," which is a common, well-known cause of choppy or one-way audio on business phone systems. If the issue continues, call us and we'll help track it down.

How does 911 work with a hosted phone system?

Every phone number on your account has a registered location that emergency responders are sent to when 911 is dialed, so it's important to keep that location current, especially for phones or the mobile app used somewhere other than your main office. For businesses with multiple lines, federal law also requires that 911 can be dialed directly (no prefix needed) and that someone on-site is notified when it's used. Ask us about Dynamic E911, which automatically updates your location for remote and mobile users.

Can my team work remotely or from home?

Yes. ConnectUC works the same way on a home internet connection as it does in the office, through the desktop app, a browser, or the mobile app, so your team can make and receive calls on their business number from anywhere.

How secure is a hosted phone system?

Your service runs on encrypted connections and is monitored for suspicious activity like unauthorized international calling or unusual usage patterns, which are common targets for phone system fraud. Using strong passwords for your Customer Portal and ConnectUC accounts, and not sharing login credentials, is the most effective thing you can do to keep your account secure.
